Preface

For nearly five decades or so the first author, Prof. P.H. Kulkarni happens to be an Ayurveda Guru and has been going through a number of exam papers, research papers, books and theses on plants. However, neither there has been any standardized publication on this subject as per the Ayurvedic syllabus nor the few available are full of the syllabus. Hence this book on Ayurvedic Plants is compiled from various sources with utmost details about the plants, which covers almost all the Ayurvedic MD and BAMS syllabus. The second author Dr. Shahida Ansari being an ethnoarchaeologist by profession has made her mark in Ayurveda with-the publication of the Ayurvedic Plant Encyclopaedia which consists of a book on Multilingual Ayurvedic Plant Dictionary and a CD_Rom on Ayurvedic Plants, Ayurveda Academy, 36, Kothrud, Pune 411029.

The book is designed as such that each page contains the details and line drawing of one plant and all plants are arranged alphabetically in ascending order with their scientific names. This work has been a successful venture only with the kind help of Ms. Shubhangi Kardile and Dr. Alok Kumar Kanungo.
